Just found this really interesting video on Youtube concerning deity name pronounciations. It’s very logical that there isn’t one concrete way to pronounce a deity’s name. Whether you’re a follower of, pay tribute to, or work with Isis, Brigid, Cernunnos, Hera, etc., at some time you may have wondered what is the correct way to say these diety names. I’ve heard much debate on either side of this (mainly for the ”correct” pronounciation being important) so I hope this little video puts some of that debate to rest.

Ever since I could remember, I have always been drawn to Tiger Eye. I’ve even questioned myself as to why I’m drawn to it when I don’t even care for the colours. It’s the vibrations that I feel from this stone.

If you go WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY back, Roman soliders believed that Tiger Eye was ”all-seeing” and wore the stone for protection. The Chinese declared this stone as the balancer between Yin and Yang, thus balancing our perception.

Since, Tiger Eye has become know as a stone for psychic protection, confidence, protection during travel, courage and personal power. It is often used to aid in the focusing of the mind and in conjuction with the Solar and Crown Chakra. The balancing power of this stone also makes it a very good tool for grounding in spirtual work, healing or meditation. As it balances but also disrupts the flow of energies, some may only be able to wear Tiger Eye for a few days while others benefit from their steady vibration. After wearing Tiger Eye as jewelry or using it in healing, it is best to cleanse the stone of residual energies and re-charge. (see Crystal Cleansing)

Tip for the Crafty

Tiger Eye is an excellent stone to pick for making prayer beads (malas) to be used with prayers or meditation.

Tips for the Unfocused

Doesn’t this explain us most of the time? Placing Tiger Eye around your work space and around your home will help you to concentrate and get your work done.

It’s been quite a while since I’ve had a chance to update my blog. Being a student single mom of 3, life got in the way. Santa-visit came and went quickly and then I realized… this decade is almost finished.. so it’s about time I posted on my blog. So for the end of 2010, here is my topic :

Wheat Allergy

With the growing number of the population being diagnosed with Celiac Disease, the appearance of wheat allergy and wheat intolerance in the news has increased as well. I am only thankful for this and sincerely wish I had know about this YEARS ago. When people discuss allergies, people think about anaphylactic responses, hives and all the other very obvious symptoms. What often gets neglected is the multitude of emotional responses to allergens. Often, people with these type of responses rarely show an allergic response in the common medical allergy tests.. but that is only because these tests only test for one type of allergy response, a response that is immediate, and neglects allergic response that can manifest within the few hours or days. A quick search online can give you further information on this.

Before I get off topic, I’ll go back to emotional responses to allergens. Allergies can disrupt the levels of hormones and other chemicals in the brain. Reactions can range from fatigue to learning disabilities to mood swings to depression to mania to schizophrenic symptoms. I wish I could go into an intense medical description of how and why this happens, but unfortunately I lack the medical knowledge. Thankfully due to a very good midwife and a very understanding doctor, I discovered this connection and was able to stop a diagnosis of ADHD by eliminating dairy milk from my oldest son’s diet. We had to eliminate 100% of the dairy milk from his diet and wait a few weeks before I noticed the difference in behaviour. First the eczema disappeared.. then the mood swings disappeared.. then the hyperactivity disappeared.. I finally had my son back! Eight years later, he is able to manage his reactions through physical activity. Ice cream consumption ONLY happens if he can burn off the reaction. I can still tell when he’s cheated though, he gets ”teen-age” moody and I just have to be a little more understanding.

That brings me to the topic of wheat allergy. Eight years ago, this barely had any mention. Now, there are actual studies being done on the results of wheat allergies, separate from Celiac Disease. This allergy is fairly new to our household. We just happened to stumble upon it last spring when my 10 year old couldn’t keep any food down, except for rice cakes. Going on instinct and desperation, I elminated all wheat from his diet. The pediatrician we were seeing accused me of being a hypochondriac parent, destined to only do harm to my child. Thankfully, my family doctor said if he reacts, then don’t give it to him! Within days, the diarrhea and vomiting had stopped. A few months later, I noticed that his asthma symptoms had almost disappeared. Two months into the new school year, he was taken off his modified plan and, while still behind in school, is catching up and doing very well. Ten months later, I’m amazed at the change. I wish I had caught onto this years ago. Perhaps he wouldn’t spent so much of his life in the hospital with asthma symptoms. Perhaps he wouldn’t have fallen behind in school so badly. I’m sure I could continue with many more ”perhaps.” Now that my youngest son is being faced with testing for Asperger’s Syndrome and ADHD, this hypochondriac parent will be experimenting with a diet change before he becomes labeled. Atleast there is more and more information being released to support what I’m doing.

Unfortunately, western medicine has medicalized everything and there’s a tendency to label natural reactions and treatments as bogus. I’m thankful that I knew enough to rely on instinct and venture into the ”unknown”. Fortunately, I do see the light. More and more parents are taking their childrens’ health into their own hands and looking for more natural, less chemical options. I do see the day when western medicine takes a passenger seat to the unconventional (or would it then be considered the conventional?). In my mind, the two can be complimentary, and this is the view of many certified natural doctors. I feel that this topic may lead to further blog posts….

“There are twenty-two paths, or archetypal gateways, available to us and it is through the names that we are given at birth that we come to express their dynamics and force. Of course, this is the same number of cards in the Major Arcana so that you should begin to see how important each card can be in unlocking the specific incarnational dynamics of a clients’ life.”

I’ve been feeling lately that my career path may or may not be the one I’m destined for. I’m just finishing up a Bachelor of Education and know I would make a great teacher. I have lots of experience with teaching children so this career came naturally for me. Lately, there’s been just a nagging feeling that it’s not my true path. Although this may be my career, it’s not what I’m supposed to be doing. This is when I stumbled across this website. I only wish I had thought of this!

This is a very interesting combination of tarot and numerology. To start off, write out your name, leaving space to assign numbers to each letter.

A =1, B= 2, C=3, D=4, E=5, F=6, G=7, H=8, I=9

J=1, K=2, L=3, M=4, N=5, O=6, P=7, Q=8, R=9

S=1, T=2, U=3, V=4, W=5, X=6, Y=7, Z=8

So if your name was Bob Barkley, it’d be 2+6+2+3+2+1+9+2+3+5+7 = 42. This is his outer personality. Reduce this further : 4+2=6. This is his inner personality or soul value. Assign it’s value to the Major Arcana. 6 = The Lovers.

From this you can find your signifactor and use this on spreads involving life direction or career. You can also reflect on the card and use this when thinking about your life path and your true vocation.

Note : If the number is 22 or more, then you connect directly to the corresponding card. If it is between 10-21, then it is an older Soul that carries more and possibly complex Karma with difficult challenges throughout the lifetime.

Nicknames : These names can be more significant than your given name. If you always go by Bob instead of Robert, use your nickname. This may play closer to your true soul value than your full given name.

I’m finally finished school, at least for the semester so it’s time for me to get back at this. So now onto the next installment of Crystal of the Week.

Apache Tear or Obsidian is a naturally forming volcanic glass and is actually classified as glass instead of a rock or crystalline. This “crystal” comes in a few varieties: Rainbow, Mahogany, Snowflake and Pure.

Since all forms of obsidian protective against and absorb negativity, it is best to either complement it with a cleaning or transmuting stone, such as turquoise or cleanse the obsidian frequently.

Obsidian is powerful as a cleanser when wanting to rid an atmosphere of negativity or other influences. It is especially powerful in numbers and combined with turquoise or agate. If using this stone for an outside space, placing the obsidian on the ground will eliminate the need for a cleaning or transmuting stone.

Pure Obsidian

Pure Obsidian is very dark, transparent and may have more colours than black due to the influence of other minerals such as iron. It is often used in divination, in particular scrying.

This stone is a very strong for protection and removing negativity. If the user has been using it to absorb negative emotion, the stone will cloud up. Sometimes it will clear up after the period of negativity is over. This stone particularly useful during the grieving process and is sometimes called the “grief stone.” Obsidian is also is used to protect the young and gentle from abuse and depression.

Obsidian is a grounding stone and is often used for healing. It is connected to the Root Chakra. Like the other obsidians, it’s used for inner-self issues and allowing the user to access these problems before they explode.

Rainbow Obsidian

The rainbow sheen seen on this stone is created from the gas bubbles along the layer of molten rock as it’s cooling.

This stone is an excellent grounding stone, connecting your Root Chakra to the heart of the earth. It is also protective and shields the user from negativity, both from inside the wearer or directed at the user.

Rainbow Obsidian is used for matters concerning self-esteem. It is used when you want to get to know your inner-flaws and how to overcome them.

This stone is used in meditation to eliminate barriers and expand your consciousness. It sharpens your senses and can help go deeper into the meditation.

Mahogany Obsidian

This is a stone of strength, in times of adversity or in times of need. Similar to Rainbow Obsidian, this stone helps reveal our inner-flaws and also helps the user find a path and the strength to make significant changes in our life.

Snowflake Obsidian

The balance of black and white in this stone creates this into a stone to balance the body, the spirit and the mind. It promotes a sense of calm and serenity.

It helps the user recognize negative mental patterning and release this method of thinking, thus becoming a stone of transformation. The issues arising will be brought out more gently when using snowflake obsidian than it would otherwise be.

Snowflake Obsidian has been used to enhance psychic ability by empowering the sense of isolation, which is useful for meditation. It’s qualities are similar to Rainbow Obsidian.

This is a stone of action. Carnelian, a form of Chalcedony, is very helpful with making choices and decisions. It stimulates precision and energizing personal power, along with inspiring confidence and courage.

This stone helps the wearer to focus, realize and self-actualize and helps reveal hidden talents. Due to this aspect, it helps daydreamers focus on reality.

Carnelian helps balance creative and mental processes by eliminating self-imposed blocks. It’s sometimes called the “actor’s stone.” This stone aids in memory, including past life recall.

This stone is used to banish negative emotions. It stimulates acceptance and helps calm fears of the cycle of life (death & rebirth). Carnelian also protects the wearer from the negative emotions of others.

Within the home, Carnelian is best placed in the central area as it creates harmony and balance. Place in the south area for success, west for creativity and southeast for self-worth.

Carnelian helps the user absorb vitamins, warms and cleanses the internal systems located within the root and sacral chakra, helps with back pain and alleviates asthma and allergies. It also promotes potency and fertility.

When used with citrin on the lower 3 chakras, it helps alleviate sorrow or depression, aids in grounding and keeping focus on the present.

It’s qualities are enhanced when used with Lapis Lazuli and Turquoise.

Some other names are: Aaron’s rod, Adam’s flannel, Beggar’s blanket, Candlewick plant, Clot, Cuddy’s Lungs, Graveyard Candles,Witch’s Candle, Torchwort, Graveyard Dust… the list goes on. If you read through my posting on herbal code, you would have noticed the frequent mention of mullein. It was used a wick for a candle before introduction of cotton, thus inspiring the name “Candlewick plant.” This lead to the name of “Witch’s Candle” as many witches used candles at night.

Traditionally, it is used to invoke elemental energy of fire and has been a protective herb. It’s been used in spells to protect everything from people to cattle to butter. It has also been associated with returning such as the return of children kidnapped by faeries or the return of someone’s mind that had been “lost.” It’s other magickal properties include courage, determination, divination, healing, fertility, purification and sleep.

Mullein has many medicinal uses. The flower is an expectorant and pain reliever. Dried leaves are smoked to relive a phlegmy cough. A tea made of the flowers is a strong sedative, is used to treat migraines and as an antibiotic. A poultice of the leaves helps to heal wounds. Juice and powder from the dried roots heals warts and an infusion of the flowers in olive oil cures an earache.

Spell Ideas

Dream pillow : add mullein to a dream pillow (alone or with an herb mixture) to protect against nightmares.

Malicious Hauntings : mix with dill, salt and fennel to ward off malicious spirits.

Graveyard Dust : ground dried mullein can be used as a substitute for graveyard dust in spells.

Amulet : mullein can be kept in an amulet to protect during travel or against wild animals (and insects) when walking through the forest. It can also be used anytime you need courage.

Bath or Tea : either drink mullein tea or bathe with a handful of mullein leaves to instill courage.

NOTE : This herb should not be injested or smoked without consulting a medical professional
